Introduction
Controlon.com is an effort to aggregate as much information as possible,
and to develop a site which becomes a single stop information source for
controls and automation professionals both in manufacturing automation and
process control. This site was born from a need frequently felt by us in
the course of our project and maintenance work. The need for accurate product
and sourcing information, technical clarifications, safety and other usage
information. Most of the time the need was immediate. A considerable time
was however spent during the pre-internet era scanning through manuals and
corresponding with OEM’s and other relevant sources. While this has been
considerably alleviated by the internet explosion, in a practical sense,
any search on the internet bombards us with information that more often
is not the exact thing we want. Over the years, numerous interactions with
people in similar fields convinced us that the requirement is the same i.e
the requirement of a single stop resource centre for controls and automation
professionals. This site is an endeavor to fulfill this requirement and
as all of us will agree, this has to be an on-going process with fine tuning
on the way. The objective of the site is quite focused:
- Provide information the user wants clearly categorzed with a wide
array of search options.
- Provide a forum for useful interactions
- Provide a space for buy/sell advertisements
- Provide an area for information sharing
- And above all provide an area to bring out the non technical creativity
of highly technical people.
About the sections
Forums
Technical Forums for discussions on topics related to control and automation.
When we were deciding how to categorize the forums we were in a not sure
weather to classify it on a manufacturer e.g Rockwell, Honeywell or Siemens
or classify it on product families like PLC, CNC, Drives etc. While manufacturer
classifications make the forum more focused, it increases the number of
forums beyond manageable limits, since there are so many sources of quality
automation components. We finally adopted a more practical approach i.e
forums are classified on manufacturer where the usage is expected to be
high and on product families otherwise.
Resources
Resources contains three sections
- Technical Articles,
- Tutorials and
- Downloads.
These contain information we have compiled over the years and contribution
from viewers drawn from their experiences. We will also consider partnership
from other similar sites.
Info'
Here we have four sections
- News - a collection of happenings
- Events - Major Exhibitions and Shows
- Sponsored - Personal pages of manufacturers.
- Featured - An area for manufacturers to showcase their special promotion
campaigns. Users can request information from an on-line form which
will be forwarded to the manufacturers.
All these sections support a variety of search options for you to zoom in
to your information easily.
Directory
A directory of manufacturers, consultants, system integrators etc. alongwith
the category of products and services they deal in, searchable using multiple
search options. If you would like to be included please fill up the on-line
registration form.
Classifieds
This is a buy/sell area for individuals and automation integration companies.
If you have any automation surplus to sell or would like to source any products,
you can advertise your requirement here. We provide you a forum where a
buyer and seller can meet. Again with a wide variety of search options specially
designed to focus your scope.
Medley
As the name implies this is a section what all the other sections are not.
An area where we do not talk controls and automation at all. We invite all
visitors to suggest sub sections for this. As of now we have set this space
up as a place for all of us to explore our non-technical skills.
